In a major step for blockchain governance in South Asia, CoinCeylon, in collaboration with Intersect, successfully hosted the inaugural Annual Members Meeting (AMM) at the Hilton Colombo recently.

The event gathered over 100 attendees, including business leaders, media representatives, and blockchain enthusiasts. It was a critical opportunity for the Sri Lankan blockchain community to engage with the global Cardano ecosystem, marking the first event of its kind in South Asia, alongside five other Global events held in Japan, the US, Portugal, Ghana and Mexico, the organisers said in a media release.

As part of Intersect’s broader vision for 2025, the AMM in Sri Lanka is part of a larger push to promote governance, transparency, and innovation within the Cardano blockchain ecosystem. The discussions at the event emphasised the need for stronger community engagement and laid out plans to promote blockchain technology education and adoption in emerging markets like Sri Lanka.

Kavinda Kariyapperuma, Founder/CEO of CoinCeylon and Hub Manager of Intersect Sri Lanka, emphasised the importance of the event, saying: “The Annual Members Meeting of CoinCeylon x Intersect Hub in Sri Lanka marks a significant milestone in our journey to foster blockchain governance and innovation. We believe that community hubs are essential for promoting transparency, inclusivity, and active participation within the blockchain ecosystem. Our hub provides a platform for developers, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to contribute to the global Cardano community, and we are excited to be in discussions with local universities to promote blockchain education.”

Intersect is a member-based organisation for the Cardano ecosystem, focusing on decentralised governance and the future development of blockchain technology. Nick Cook, Head of Membership and Community at Intersect, highlighted the global role of Intersect and its collaboration with CoinCeylon:

“Intersect brings together developers, companies, and individuals who contribute to Cardano’s open-source projects and governance. CoinCeylon, our partner in Sri Lanka, is doing fantastic work in generating interest in Cardano and developing blockchain professionals while driving partnerships that will be valuable for both Intersect and Sri Lanka’s blockchain presence.

The AMM also highlighted Intersect’s upcoming Committee and Board elections, allowing members to shape Cardano’s governance. These elections are an opportunity for members to take leadership roles and contribute to the long-term success of Cardano. Sri Lanka’s blockchain community is growing rapidly, with increasing interest in Cardano’s decentralised model of governance and its potential to disrupt traditional industries. CoinCeylon and Intersect are committed to continuing this growth by offering members unique opportunities for learning, collaboration, and contribution to the global blockchain ecosystem.
