Easing the visa process to enter Germany
Berlin: In a bid to encourage skilled migrants to Germany and ease the visa process, German authorities are planning to digitalise the entire visa process with effect from January 2025.
“This will be a very transparent process where you can track at what stage your visa process is. We will use AI to support this process,” said an international affairs source during a recent meeting with a group of visiting journalists from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
The senior journalists were involved in multiple briefings with local authorities and non-state sector agencies in a one-week visit geared to promote Germany as a favourable country for study, work and living. It was sponsored by the German Federal Office and organised by the Goethe Institute.
Germany needs at least one million workers a year and is ramping up its pre-departure language proficiency programmes to help interested parties. Already Germany has clinched a deal with India, offering 90,000 jobs a year for Indian professionals, a week after the visit on October 6-12 of this delegation of journalists.
The shortage of workers is also because women are conceiving less babies even amongst immigrants, population is dropping and there are more deaths than new borns. Without immigration Germany’s population will be unstable, we were told. Mostly in demand in Germany are nurses and IT professionals.
