HRC Kandy District coordinator alleges ill treatment at immigration office

Human Rights Commission Kandy District Coordinator Viranjan Dias Sumanasekara, has lodged a complaint to the Human Rights Commission following alleged unruly behaviour and ill-treatment by the Director of the Kandy Immigration Office during his visit to renew his passport.
The District Coordinator, along with a group of executive officials from the Kandy Regional Office of the HRC, had received an invitation to participate in a training workshop in India.
The complainant states that during his visit to the Kandy Immigration Office to renew his passport, he was informed that it would not be possible to process it before November 15.
Although a letter was issued from the main office of the Human Rights Commission requesting that his passport be updated as an urgent matter, the head officer of the Immigration Office did not attend to it, and the letter indicates that she acted in a manner that undermined the Human Rights Commission.
