Two exceptional divers from the diving powerhouse Bishop’s College, senior national champion Kithmi Marambe and junior national champion Yashodha Pilapitiya, secured top honours, leading the Boyd Place School to victories in both the Senior and Junior Girls National Overall Championships at the 48th National Diving Championship, organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) and held at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex last week.

Yashodha Pilapitiya had an impressive performance, winning the gold medal in the 3m Springboard event with a score of 235.06 points. She outperformed Vinudi Kamkanamage from Visakha Vidyalaya, who took home the silver with 192.7 points. Pilapitiya also excelled in the Platform event, where she again secured gold, leaving Kamkanamage in second place with 171.15 points. Additionally, she earned a silver medal in the 1m Springboard event with a score of 211.15 points, completing a remarkable three-medal haul and securing her title as the
junior national diving champion.

Notably, Pilapitiya’s achievements are even more impressive as she has beaten Kankanamage, who will be the only female diver to represent Sri Lanka at the upcoming World Aquatic Junior Diving Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this December. Earlier this year, Pilapitiya also excelled by winning a bronze medal at the 14th Singapore National Diving Championship.

On the senior side, Kithmi Marambe bid farewell to her illustrious school diving career. She secured gold medals in all three senior events — the 1m Springboard, 3m Springboard, and Platform, marking her third consecutive Senior National Diving Championship title. This championship also served as her final representation for Bishop’s College, recognised as the powerhouse of girls’ diving in Sri Lanka.
