Appeal to re-build the Sakya kingdom set for ‘The Buddha’ epic
View(s):The Light of Asia Foundation is now in readiness to do the International production of the Epic ‘Buddha – The Enlightened One‘ which will bring to the attention of the world the fundamental philosophy of the Noble Eightfold Path, the First Sermon of The Enlightened Buddha.
The Hollywood collaboration organised by Star Alston Koch for the filming of the Epic in 2021 with the replica of the Sakya Kingdom that was being developed in Sri Lanka, was delayed due to the destruction caused to the built Ramya Palace, Lumbini Park, Rampart and several features by the last political authority in the area who promoted a Zoo instead.
Discussions are presently ongoing with the studio in Hollywood to re-start the shooting of the epic in Sri Lanka, with the formation of the new government. Light of Asia presented the award winning cinematic classic ‘Sri Siddhartha Gautama’ tracing the journey of a unique prince and his historic renunciation from the extreme luxury of a palace complex until the attainment of enlightenment, which was acclaimed as the Best Buddhist Movie at the United Nations Vesak Film Festival
in Vietnam in 2014.
The Faculty of Dreams and Film Making being established at the Light of Asia Centre will be directly involved in presenting the Epic ‘Buddha – The Enlightened One’ and the pristine teachings during the forty five years of Buddhahood of over 10,000 suttras, made into a series of short films.
This gigantic effort spanning several years will engage the cast and crew mainly from the Faculty of Dreams in collaboration with the Dil Films Studio which will direct and transmit its productions using the range of in-house facilities and the latest technology, with the sensitive role of The Buddha in animation to realistic visuals.
The training at the Faculty of Dreams will start in November 2024, with the epic to be filmed in January and February 2025, to be presented worldwide in celebration of Vesak in May 2025.
Those selected members for the Faculty of Dreams will have a life changing opportunity to learn and earn and a role in the cast or crew in the production of ‘Buddha – The Enlightened One’, and thereafter enter the arena of the international cinema while making the suttras for a global audience.
Light of Asia will partner
the SuttaCentral in Australia which has the suttras in over forty languages, Walpola Rahula Institute and Dhammavahini in Sri Lanka.
The expertise of the senior members of the original team of the ‘Siddhartha Movie’ will add strength to the noble mission, while the main operations will be at the Light of Asia Centre in Palewatte, Sri Lanka until the destroyed Sakya Kingdom is re-built.
