A well-attended meeting was held at the Thulana research centre at Kelaniya last Sunday to mark four important events. One was the 42nd aniversary of CEIIIC the Dalugama school where high-tec training is given for the speech impaired and the hearing impaired. At this school the deaf and dumb are trained not in sign language but to speak, hear and understand Sinhala and English. The school was founded by Rev Sr Greta Nalawatta.

Sr Greta’s 81st birthday was also celebrated on the occassion. The other celebration was the 90th birthday of one of Asia’s leading bible scholars Fr Aloysius Pieris. The fourth was the golden jubilee of the research centre he founded for Buddhist-Christian dialogue.
