Death of former local council member: Statements recorded from 10 people

Kegalle Police have recorded statements from ten people regarding the death of 75-year-old former school teacher Krishantha Pulasthi Marapane of Kempitiya Walawwe, Buruluppe, in the Kegalle District.
Inspector S. Pushpakumara who is heading investigations said that there is no concrete evidence of the alleged murder, though it may possibly have been the result of a land conflict.
The deceased was living with his sick wife, who had been found with her mouth sellotaped and in a state of shock when the police arrived at the scene. Their car, stolen, was found by the Police abandoned near Pindeniya.
The Police said they are continuing investigations into the death of the victim who was also a former local council member of the Kegalle Pradeshiya Sabha. The victim’s only son is abroad currently.
