Stormy weather inland but calm seas, Met. Department forecasts
View(s):The Meteorological Department issued a warning that heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are likely in certain areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, and North-central provinces.
Throughout the day, showers or thundershowers are anticipated in most parts of the island, particularly along the coastal regions of the Western, Southern, North-western, and Northern provinces.
The Met. Department urges the public to take necessary precautions due to potential threats caused by temporary, strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Duty forecaster said that the inter-monsoon season would prevail for about one and a half months, provided the wind patterns do not change.
However, he said that the fishermen would not be affected by the weather as the seas are not rough. Reports from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) state that no major incidents had occurred due to the weather in the past week despite 177 families and 583 individuals having been affected due to flash floods, fallen trees, cutting failure.
