Sandun steers Sri Lanka to HK 6s semis
Sandun Weerakkody steered Sri Lanka to the semi-final of the Hong Kong 6s cricket tournament with cracking 14-ball half ton, inclusive of four boundaries and five sixes, to help the side record a comfortable 40-run win over Nepal in the third quarter-final played at the Mong Kok in Kowloon, Hong Kong yesterday.
Weerakkody gave Sri Lanka a flying start, and along with opening partner Thanuka Dabare, put on 58 runs and he followed it up with another 43-run stand for the second wicket with skipper Lahiru Madusanka before retiring.
Skipper Madusanka along with Lahiru Samarakoon added a further 22 runs before Samarakoon was dismissed before Sri Lanka ended with a score of 123 for 2 in six overs. Nepal in their run chase lost three early wickets on 13 and despite a knock of 55 from Rashid Khan later in the innings, were bowled out for 83 runs.
Meanwhile in the other three quarter-finals Australia, Pakistan and Bangladesh won their matches against hosts Hong Kong, South Africa and United Arab Emirates.
