J’Pura Uni researchers on 2023 Asian Scientist 100 list
View(s):Two researchers from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) have been recognised in the 2023 edition of the Asian Scientist 100 list.
This annual list, compiled by Asian Scientist Magazine, celebrates achievements of Asia’s leading researchers across various scientific disciplines.
Dr Samawansha Harsheni Tennakoon, a researcher from the Faculty of Applied Sciences at USJ, was honoured for her work on plant-based treatments for cancer patients. Dr Tennakoon was awarded the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) 2023 Early Career Fellowship for her research on investigating the chemical and biological properties of traditional Sri Lankan cancer treatments.
Dr Imalka Munaweera, also from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, was recognised for her contributions to the field of chemistry. She received the 2023 TWAS-Atta-ur-Rahman Award in Chemistry for her work in developing engineered inorganic nanostructures and nanofib composites. These innovations have potential applications in multiple fields.
