Quincy Jones passes away
The legendary music producer Quincy Jones has died on 3rd November at the age of 91 at his home in Bel Air, Los Angeles in the US. He had worked with numerous artists over decades. His biggest artist was Michael Jackson with the album ’Thriller’ being the most outstanding. He had also collaborated or produced for Frank Sinatra, Donna Summer, the Brothers Johnson, Donna Summer, George Benson, Patti Austin, Billy Eckstine, Dizzy Gillespie and many others. He began by playing the trumpet but later could play any instrument. Jones released 16 albums and 24 soundtracks. He won 28 Grammy Awards. He was a songwriter, composer, conductor, film and television. He could work in the genres of jazz, soul, rap, pop etc. Many tributes about the man have appeared, and will be published in the future. Quincy Jones had the ability to literally turn anything into gold.
Gigi Perez song climbs the charts
Gigi Perez has brought about change at the top of the UK singles chart this week. Her breakout song ‘Sailor Song’, climbed a single notch to end 21 continuous with the presence of Sabrina Carpenter. The largely acoustic track is an indie folk song Perez had penned back in February this year while she was still with Interscope Records. In August the 24 year old New Jersey born and Florida based artist released ’Sailor Song’, a ballad about a woman who looks like Anne Hathaway. The track took off on Tik Tok and as it went viral, began its chart journey 14 weeks ago at 53. The success of ’Sailor Song’ has seen Perez sign with Island Records since September. The song is not connected to an album as yet. Gigi whose actual name is Gianna penned her debut hit song and co- produced it with Noah Weinman. The song is also No.1 in Ireland and Latvia.
Lady Gaga single debuts on the charts
’Disease’ the latest song release by Lady Gaga has debuted on the UK singles chart at No.7 this week. The song features the combined genres of dark pop, synthpop, dance and EDM is the 16th hit to surface on the UK top 10 for Lady Gaga. ’Disease’ is also the lead single from her forthcoming hitherto untitled album. The 38 year old singer has co-produced the new song with Andrew Watt and Cirkut. Gaga had a recent top 10 hit which was a duet ’Die With A Smile’ with Bruno Mars which peaked at No.2 on the singles chart.
Concert to celebrate David Foster’s birthday
A huge concert was staged on November 3 at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate the 75th birthday of David Foster, the producer, composer and songwriter who has been behind several popular songs such as ’The Glory Of Love’ by Chicago, ‘Un-break My Heart’ by Toni Braxton and ’Í Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston. Artist such Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble, Jennifer Hudson, and his wife Katherine McPhee performed.
