The government yesterday said it had no plans to close down Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd.

Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Finance said it had observed that certain parties were trying to circulate reports to mislead the public on the future of Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd. The reports had misinterpreted the contents of a gazette the ministry had issued.

The statement said the new government, as has been mentioned in its policy document titled “A Thriving Nation, A Beautiful Life,” had clearly explained that it aimed to develop state entrepreneurship. A government with such a mandate had no plans to close down Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd, the ministry said.

It also said the company would continue providing Thriposha to children and pregnant mothers and take urgent steps to transform itself into a stronger and more efficient institution.

The denial followed accusations levelled by several opposition parties that the government was making plans to liquidate the state-owned company.
