The Court of Appeal issued a ruling preventing the Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) Annual General Meeting from being held with the interest of making amendments to its constitution. Seven Provincial Rugby Unions, namely Western, Uva, Central, Southern, Eastern, North Central and North Western had filed a petition appealing to prevent the SLR AGM from taking place as instructed by its present Competent Authority.

The Court of Appeal overruled preliminary objections made by the respondents until final determination of the matter. The case will be taken up on December 3.

President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha, along with attorneys Pulasthi Rupasinghe and Kavin Hettiarachchi, represented the petitioners in the case. Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardane along with Senior Solicitor Mrs. Maithree Amarasinghe appeared on behalf of the respondents.

The appeal was heard by Judge Mohamed Laffar and Judge P. Kumararatnam, with the Secretary of Ministry of Sports, Director General of Sports and former Sports Minister Harin Fernando being named as respondents.
