From November 18 through 22, the US-SLFC and EducationUSA , along with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S Department of Education, will invite American students to explore opportunities to study abroad in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan students to study at U.S. higher education institutions.

IEW is one way we achieve the US-SLFC’s mission of “building bridges of understanding and peace between people of the United States and people of Sri Lanka through educational, artistic, and professional exchanges.”Year-round we offer scholarships and exchanges for both Sri Lankans and Americans. DuringIEW,EducationUSA will highlight those exchange opportunities through social media stories, programs, and dialogues.

Please see EducationUSA Sri Lanka and US-SLFC Facebook pages for inspiring stories of American students and scholars who have visited Sri Lanka or Sri Lankans who went the U.S. These life-changing experiences are amplified when those students, scholars, teachers, artists, or professionals share their stories with others.

Tuesday, November 19, please join our featured speaker for a presentation on “Navigating Pre- and Post-Study Processes in the U.S.” by Lauren Karplus, Assistant Director, ACES Offices of International Programmes, University of Illinois. Please register at https://bit.ly/EdUSAIEWEvent24

October 2024 EducationUSA and EdPrograms University Fair for U.S. higher education representatives to meet with Sri Lankan counselors, parents, and students.

In 2023-24, 3424 Sri Lankans went to the U.S. for higher education, up 10.2% from the year before, according to Open Doors Report 2024. And a growing number of Americans are coming to Sri Lanka to learn from and with professors, scholars, and fellow students here. That exchange is valuable to all who participate.

Patrick McNamara, Ph.D., Executive Director of the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission said, “The mutual understanding fostered by people-to-people relationships is the most powerful diplomacy. International Education Week is a chance to highlight the growing opportunities for that. In a world that can sometimes appear so divided, we are delighted that US-SLFC and EducationUSA can play a positive role in building peace through exchanges.”
