Foreign envoys congratulate NPP on victory
View(s):Ambassadors and High Commissioners congratulated the NPP on their victory in the parliamentary elections. Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha visited President Anura Dissanayake to express his congratulations.
In his message on X, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Dissanayake on his party’s “resounding” victory and called the results a “testament to the confidence and trust that the people of Sri Lanka have reposed in his vision and leadership.
The Australian embassy said on X that it “looks forward to working with the new government to continue to strengthen our close bilateral ties.” UK’s High Commissioner Andrew Patrick said “The UK looks forward to working with Sri Lanka’s leaders to advance prosperity and the longstanding friendship between our two nations.”
The Iranian Embassy on X congratulated the government and people of Sri Lanka “on the successful conduct of parliamentary election.” At the time of printing, US, Russian and Chinese representatives had not yet released public statements.
The UN resident coordinator said in a statement on X, “The @UNSriLanka congratulates all those elected to 10th @ParliamentLK & @NPPSLOfficial for its majority. Sri Lankans must be commended for civil & peaceful elections. We are committed working together to accelerate recovery, sustain development & build peace”.
