The National Peoples’ Power (NPP) came up with a tentative list consisting of senior party stalwarts, trade unionists, and professionals to fill the 18 national list slots while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the National Democratic Front (NDF) are set to finalise their lists tomorrow.

The NPP announced 18 names from the list of 29 the party had handed over to the Election Commission, but senior NPP officials said the final list was yet to be confirmed.

The NPP’s tentative National List consists of Bimal Ratnayake, Dr. Wasantha Subhasinghe, Dr. Anura Karunathilake, Dr. Upali Pannilage, Eranga Udesh Weeraratne, Aruna Jayasekara, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Punya Sri Kumara Jayakodi, Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Dr. Najith Indika, Sugath Thilakaratne, Lakmali Hemachandra, Sunil Kumara Gamage, Gamini Ratnayake, Prof. Ruwan Chaminda Ranasinghe, Sugath Wasantha De Silva, and Keerthi Walisarage.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara told the Sunday Times that further discussions were underway to name the members from the national list to Parliament. The SJB has five national list slots.

Meanwhile, the NDF is set to meet tomorrow at 3 p.m. to decide on the two national list slots.

According to former presidential advisor Saman Rathnapriya, former President

The Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi’s (ITAK) political bureau is also scheduled to meet today to discuss the national list slot. Former Jaffna district parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran, who failed to get re-elected, said he would not be seeking an entry through the national list but would respect the party decision.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said Namal Rajapaksa would enter Parliament from the solitary national list slot it won. Two other members were directly elected from the Galle and Hambantota districts.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the Sarvajana Balaya parties also won one national list seat each.
