Lyceum Wattala swimmers secure IISSC title for 11th year running
View(s):Lyceum International School, Wattala has once again proven its dominance in Sri Lanka’s school swimming scene, winning the 29th Inter-International School Swimming Championship (IISSC) for the 11th consecutive year. The two-day competition, organised by Asian International School and held at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex, concluded last Sunday with Lyceum Wattala finishing at the top of the leaderboard with an impressive 1,013 points.
The event saw 20 schools competing, and Lyceum Wattala’s remarkable performance outshone their closest rivals, Lyceum Ratnapura, who secured second place with 963 points. Gateway College, Colombo rounded out the top three with 516 points.
Other schools in the top 10 included Stafford International School (503 points), Lyceum Panadura (460 points), Lyceum Nugegoda (406 points), Asian International School (328 points), Royal Institute (287 points), The British School in Colombo (224 points), and Horizon College International (164 points).
The championship, which spanned across five age groups, also crowned individual champions in each category. In the Under-20 division, Shaqib Riyaj of Stafford International School stood out with two gold medals and a silver, setting a new meet record. Hiruki de Silva of Gateway Colombo was another highlight, clinching three gold medals and breaking three meet records.
In the Under-16 age group, Okitha Gunasekara of Elizabeth Moir School and Yunaya Perera of Lyceum Wattala made a splash, winning three gold medals each, with Gunasekara setting three new records and Perera setting one.
The Under-14 champions were Dulaksha Ganidu of Lyceum Ratnapura, who won three gold medals with two new meet records, and Dilushi Dilshara of Lyceum Wattala, who also secured three gold medals.
The Under-12 championships went to Onel Perera of Stafford International School, who won two gold medals and a silver, and Rusansa Lokuwithana of Royal Institute, who claimed three gold medals.
In the Under-10 group, Sethun Rajapaksha of Lyceum Panadura and Wonushi Wijesinghe of Lyceum Wattala both shone, winning three gold medals each, with Rajapaksha setting a new meet record.
A total of 15 new meet records were set during the competition, which was held among 20 international schools and organised by Asian International School, marking a high point for the 29th consecutive year.
