All set for A/L exam
View(s):The Examinations Department has set the stage for the conduct of the GCE (Advanced Level) examination from tomorrow under strict surveillance, Commissioner General of Exams Amith Jayasundara said.
The Department dispatched A/L examination papers to 319 examination coordination centres situated island-wide by Friday evening.
The papers will remain at the coordination centres under Police security and coordinating centre officials until November 25.
The A/L exam, which is scheduled to be held November 25, to December 20, would be held under strict surveillance and supervision to avoid the exam papers being leaked prior to the examination, he said.
Over 25,000 officials would be deployed on exam duty, he added, and they have only allowed the usage of mobile phones by exam supervisors and exam coordinating officers.
“The invigilators, students are prohibited from using phones during the exam period,” he said.
Mr Jayasundara said they have appointed 1,200 additional assistant supervisors at many examination centres to monitor whether the exam will be held according to the standards established by the Department.
“All the preparations for the Advanced Level Examination have been completed; accordingly, the papers have been printed and dispatched the coordinating centres,” he added.
There are over 333,185 candidates scheduled to sit for the exam. Of them 253,390 are school students while 79,795 are privately sitting for the exam.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Education issued a notice confirming that the A/L examination will proceed as planned, ensuring fairness and adherence to the academic calendar, concluding the speculation about a possible postponement.
The Ministry acknowledged receiving requests from various parties to delay the exam, yet emphasised that all preparations including the printing of question papers, establishing regional collection centres, and setting up examination centres, have already been completed.
The Ministry also highlighted that the A/L exam schedule was officially announced on March 1, giving students and schools adequate time for preparation, therefore a change at this stage would cause significant disruption to the national examination calendar as well as affecting the scheduling of the 2024 GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) exam and other related exams.
The Ministry said rescheduling the A/L exam would create widespread logistical issues and impact the smooth functioning of Sri Lanka’s education system.
The Police have made security arrangements for the exam. Three Police officers will be deployed at each coordination centre and Police officers would also be placed outside exam centres.
