SC directs AG to discuss possibility of repeating Grade 5 scholarship exam
View(s):The Supreme Court has directed the Attorney General to discuss with the relevant authorities the possibility of re-conducting the Grade 5 scholarship exam and inform courts.
The directive was given when the court took up 4 petitions filed by students who sat the Grade 5 scholarship exam and parents who alleged that the students were at a disadvantage as some of the questions were leaked.
The petition was taken up by a bench consisting Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Achala Wengappuli and Mahida Samayawardena.
The Supreme Court issued an interim order suspending the release of the results.
The court also ordered to suspend the evaluation of the answer scripts and the decision to grant marks for all students for three questions that have been reportedly leaked.
The interim order also prevents the release of the cutoff marks to admit students to popular schools.
Additional Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratna, appearing on behalf of the AG was directed to report back to courts before December 2 about the possibility of reconducting the exam.
