DC instructs NOCSL ExCo to submit objections
In response to two applications seeking the suspension of National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) Secretary General Maxwell de Silva, Colombo District Court Judge Sandun Vithana has instructed the respondents to submit their objections by December 5.
The cases were filed by Upali Rajapaksha, President of the Handball Association of Sri Lanka, and A.A. Nalin Sanjeewa, a former President and Secretary of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. The entire Executive Board of the NOCSL has been named as respondents in the cases.
The judge further directed the complainants to submit the recommendations from the NOCSL Ethics Committee, which had called for the immediate suspension of de Silva pending further investigations by law enforcement.
The petitioners allege that de Silva has refused to recognise officials from both the Handball Association and Cycling Federation, preventing them from representing the NOCSL. They claim his actions are obstructing the functioning of their associations. Attorney-at-Law Dulith Bandara Niranjan de Silva, instructed by Sanjaya Fonseka, is representing the complainants.
