Gateway’s Adheesha and Imad win World and Asian Youth Scrabble titles

Four members of the Gateway College, Colombo scrabble team participated in the Asia Cup Youth Scrabble Championship held in New Delhi earlier this month. The tournament featured competition amongst some of the best youth players from several countries across Asia, and consisted of 24 games.

Adheesha Dissanayake (15) emerged the overall champion, winning 19 matches and maintaining a high ranking over the entire course of the tournament. Earlier this year, Adheesha became the second runner-up at the World Youth Scrabble Championship, and is also the reigning junior national champion.

Inam Irshad - Champion Under 12 WYSC

Along with Adheesha, Inam Irshad (11) was a member of the national team that represented
Sri Lanka at this event. Placing fourth overall, Inam was awarded the title of champion in the Under-12 category. He had previously became the Under-12 champion earlier this year at the World Youth Scrabble Championship. Imad Irshad (15) and Dulain Wanigasekara (12) also competed at the event, placing 13th and 23rd respectively. Imad was honoured as the Emerging Scrabbler while Dulain was named the Rising Star.
