Moratuwa University produced a fine performance to win one gold medal and two bronze medals at the Inter-University Weightlifting Championships, held at the University of Ruhuna Indoor Stadium in Matara.

The best individual performance came from their vice-captain Isuru Perera, who clinched the gold medal in the Men’s 97kg weight class while also setting a new meet record. Isuru lifted a record 106kg in the snatch category followed by another record-breaking effort of 131kg in the clean and jerk category for an aggregate of 237kg.

Meanwhile, Duljana Dilshan secured the bronze medal in the Men’s 109kg weight category while the captain of the women’s team Priyangika Perera took the bronze medal in the 64kg weight class. In addition, Amoda Attanayake was placed fourth in the 67kg weight class, Isuri Upadya finished fifth in the 76kg weight category, Vinuki Bandara came fifth in the 81kg weight class and Avishka Akalanka settled for sixth place in the 67kg weight class.

The Moratuwa University weightlifting team was powered by Yeti Sri Lanka’s renowned isotonic energy drink manufacturer.
