Interim Vote on Account to cover initial 2025 expenditures
View(s):The interim Vote on Account for recurrent and capital expenditures, the servicing of public debt, and restructuring of debt during the first four months of 2025 will be debated in Parliament on December 5 and 6, said Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
This decision was taken due to the insufficiency of time to pass the Appropriation Bill for 2025 subsequent to the convening of the new Parliament on November 21, 2024.
For the first four months of 2025, Sri Lanka has allocated Rs.1.65 trillion to ensure the continuity of ongoing development projects and the functioning of public services. Of this, Rs.1.17 trillion is designated for recurrent expenditures, which include public sector salaries, pensions, and essential service provisions. Another Rs.184 billion is allocated for capital expenditures, focusing on infrastructure and development activities, provisional estimates showed.
The comprehensive 2025 Budget proposal will be presented on January 9, with debates scheduled for February and March. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, also the Finance Minister, secured Cabinet approval for this interim arrangement.
