The Choir of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School, Kollupitiya will usher in the Christmas spirit with their annual “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols”, in the beautiful setting of St. Michael and all Angels, Polwatte, on Sunday, December 8 at 6 p.m.
The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols which was introduced in December 1957, is an institution at Prep’ School. The service takes the congregation through nine passages from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, with the first reading setting out mankind’s need for a Redeemer – the fall of humanity represented by Adam.
The subsequent readings focus on the birth of Jesus and the promise of the Messiah. Each lesson is followed by a carol that illuminates the text.
For this year’s service, Harin Amirthanathan, Choirmaster has chosen a custom programme of carols from the English tradition, both traditional and contemporary.
On Sunday, the choir is accompanied by organist Denham Pereira and led by the chaplain, Rev’d Andrew Devadason.
The Headmaster, Rev’d Nihal Fernando, cordially invites all past Prepites, parents, friends and well-wishers to be in the church by 5.45 p.m. Onstreet parking is available in the vicinity of the church.
