Hollywood’s newest musical fantasy ‘Wicked’ is now being screened in cinemas around the country.
Film adaptation of the stage musical Wicked by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, ‘Wicked’ is directed by Jon M. Chu and it is written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. The stage musical was made based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, its sequels, and its 1939 film adaptation.
Misunderstood because of her green skin, a young woman named Elphaba forges an unlikely but profound friendship with Glinda, a student with an unflinching desire for popularity. Following an encounter with the Wizard of Oz, their relationship soon reaches a crossroad as their lives begin to take very different paths.
Titled onscreen as Wicked: Part I, this is the first of a two-part film adaptation which was originally announced in 2012. However the film development had been delayed due to various reasons including Covid 19 pandemic and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike in July 2023 until the production resumed in January 2024.
