New Chief Justice Murdu Fernando to take oaths Monday

Supreme Court Justice Murdu Fernando will take oaths as Sri Lanka’s new Chief Justice before President Anura Dissanayake tomorrow (2).

Her name was recently approved by the Constitutional Council to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.

Supreme Court Justice Murdu Fernando

Justice Fernando was appointed to the Supreme Court on March 9, 2018. At the time, she was serving as Senior Additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Department. Justice Fernando is the most senior current justice in the Supreme Court.

An old girl of Princes of Wales College, Moratuwa, Justice Fernando obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo. She joined the AG’s Department as a State Counsel and served there for more than 30 years.
