Major sponsors boost success of 72nd Badminton Nationals
The Tournament Committee Secretary of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) acknowledged the crucial role of the sponsors for the expected success of the 72nd National Badminton Championship 2024, which is set to get underway at three prominent venues in Colombo from today.
Jaliya Jayasekara, the Secretary of the Tournament Committee of SLB, acknowledged the commitment of Mobil, McFoil, GAC, 3M, ProSport Hub and Li-Ning for coming forward to boost the 72nd Badminton Nationals, which began today, will continue until next Sunday at the SLB, MBA and Otters indoor badminton courts, attracting nearly 1300 shuttlers from around the county.
“Sponsors play a major role for the success of any sporting event and we are grateful to our commercial partners for coming forward to sponsor the county’s major domestic badminton competition,” Jayasekara told the media at the launch of the 72nd edition of Badminton Nationals in Colombo.
SLB has received nearly 1300 entries to its annual core badminton competition, out of which over 850 are players from schools. The governing body of badminton in
Sri Lanka has made plans to deploy near 60 officials as umpires and judges to ensure the smooth run of the event in which Buwaneka Goonathilake and Ranithma Liyanage are the defending title holders.
The 72nd National Badminton Championsh 2024 will be held across three locations in Colombo, the SLB Indoor Courts, Mercantile Badminton Association Indoor Courts and the Otter Aquatic Club Indoor Courts ranging from junior to master’s categories, promising a combined cash reward of 2m Sri Lankan rupees, certificates and medals to the winners and runners-up of the event.
