Prima Youth League U-15 matches postponed due to rain
View(s):The Prima Under-15 Youth League 2024, known for showing the talent of young cricket enthusiasts across the nation, faced an unexpected halt as heavy rain disrupted the ongoing matches. Scheduled remaining fixtures were postponed to December 2, 4, 5 and 6.
The last two league matches will now take place on December 2, while the semi-final encounters will be on December 4 and 5 at the Royal College ground in Reid Avenue and Thurstan College ground at Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha. The grand final will be on December 6 at Thurstan College cricket ground.
The Prima Under-15 tournament has long been a vital platform for budding cricketers to demonstrate their skills and vie for opportunities to advance in the sport since 2007 by way of sponsorship for junior cricket in the country. Further, more than 80 percent of current and former national players have gone through this tournament.
This year’s tournament, featuring promising five teams from Colombo South, Colombo North, Kandy, Dambulla and Galle regions, saw intense competition in the early stages. However, persistent downpours have led to delays, forcing organisers to reschedule the matches to ensure the safety of the players and maintain the quality of the game. The tournament’s postponement has only heightened the excitement for the matches ahead, with everyone looking forward to thrilling cricket action once the weather clears.
