Shamil Wakeel delivered an exceptional performance to claim victory in the Men’s Open category of the 16th Air Force Open PSA Squash Championships 2024, defeating Methmal Wood in a competitive final held in Ratmalana. Demonstrating remarkable skill and dominance, Wakeel secured the championship title with a decisive 3-0 victory in rounds.

In the Women’s Open final, Indian player Anjali Semwal showcased outstanding skill and determination to secure the title. In a closely contested match, she overcame former standout squash champion Chanithma Sinaly, representing Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, with a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

The Air Force Open Squash Tournament, conducted in adherence to international regulations under the full supervision of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation (SLSF), featured participation from both local and foreign athletes, totaling over 450 players. The competition is annually organised and conducted by Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).

The 16th Air Force Open PSA (Professional Squash Association) Squash Championship 2024 concluded on a high note at the SLAF Base Squash Complex in Ratmalana on Tuesday. The finals were held the Women’s Open and Men’s Open categories. The occasion was graced by Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa as chief guest. The event was attended by the President of Sri Lanka Squash, Dhammika Wijesundara and other distinguished guests from Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Squash.
