Korean teachers train 70 Lankan teachers
View(s):70 Lankan teachers have been trained in the Korean language, a spokesman for the senior National Institute of Education said.
A spokesman for the Korean Embassy said five Korean language training teachers from Korea were sent to Sri Lanka to teach the language.
The embassy said 3 were sent to universities and 2 to high schools. “Two were sent to Kelaniya, one to Buddhist and Pali universities and another two have taught in Rajapaksa College, Devi Balika and Defence College Sri Lanka, and are currently operating in Sri Lanka.”
70 Lankan teachers have been trained in the language after following an online programme that was designed by the NIE.
The spokesperson highlighted that 23 of these teachers have been selected for a 10-week study tour of Korea, which the Korean Government has funded.
The senior lecturer also said the programme was a certificate programme with the provision of four skills: reading, writing, grammar and listening.
She also detailed that a special committee of native Korean language trainers from Korea took part in the programme as speech trainers.
“We have completed two batchers and this is the third batch of students who are undergoing training in Korea. Our intention is to strengthen the Korean language knowledge in Sri Lanka.”
She elaborated that there are no centres for the programme, and the teachers have to take the course from their homes three-times a week for two hours a day. -PW
