Ella, one of the most sought-after destinations for travellers, is facing a challenge due to the lack of streetlights in the city and surrounding areas, causing inconvenience for both tourists and locals, particularly during the nighttime.

Many hotels, guesthouses, and homestays are located on the outskirts of the town, and many residents walk to the city of Ella for shopping, dining, and entertainment in the evenings.

These dark paths, some even in the vicinity of the historical tunnel and in the city itself, have raised safety concerns.

In the absence of adequate street lighting, tourists are often seen relying on mobile flashlights and torches to navigate the dark streets.

There have also been reports of tourists being harassed as some take advantage of the poorly lit streets.

Both visitors and those working in the tourism industry are urgently calling for action to resolve the issue.
