Court sets deadline for objections in Maxwell de Silva case
Colombo District Additional Judge Mrs. Chamari Weerasuriya has instructed the parties involved to submit objections by December 18 in the case filed against Maxwell de Silva, challenging his position as the General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sri Lanka.
The petition was filed by Upali Rajapakshe, the President of the Sri Lanka Handball Federation, and Nalin Adhikari Arachchi, the former Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation. The petition claims that de Silva’s continued tenure as General Secretary is problematic due to allegations of corruption and human trafficking, as highlighted by the Ethics Committee of the NOC.
The Court set the hearing date after the legal representatives of the respondents requested additional time to file objections. The judge directed all concerned parties to submit their objections and written submissions before the next hearing on December 18.
Romesh de Silva PC appeared on behalf of NOC President Suresh Subramaniam, instructed by Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardena.
