Gearing up for the upcoming Club Rugby League season, Havelock Sports Club has raked in the sponsorship support of Cap Fizzy and FlyHiSports, alongside other partners, to bolster their hopes of becoming champions once again. Havelocks, which has a proud history of 109 years, is one of the oldest and prestigious rugby clubs in the country, and are hopeful under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Saliya Kumara, that they could win the country’s elite rugby league title for the 15th time.

The last time Havelocks won the league championship was in 2012 under the captaincy of Henry Terrence, as they broke a 31-year jinx, as well as the consecutive 10-year reign of Kandy Sports Club.  This season, Havies will come under the captaincy of Abdulla Faiz, a former star who represented St. Peters College. He will be deputised by Sandesh Jayawikrama.

Havelocks will seek their 15th Club Rugby League title this season

With a few of their seniors ending contracts with the concluded season, Havelocks have provided the opportunity for 12 talented players who graduated from school rugby into clubs, namely from St. Peter’s, Isipathana, D.S. Senanayake, Trinity and Wesley colleges. The Park Club has retained Saliya Kumara as Head Coach while Danushka Boteju will be his assistant.

This season, Havelocks will also introduce a women’s team to boost rugby among females in the country. Laeha Gamage will take the honour as skipper of the Havelocks women’s team while and Chamodi Sathsarani has been appointed as vice captain.

Cap Fizzy, the principle sponsor of Havelocks, have signed a sponsorship agreement for a period of three years, under their energy drink brand ‘Turbo’. FlyHiSports, an entity based in Melbourne, Australia that provides schools, clubs and association sports teams to customise their designs, too have entered an agreement with Havelocks to sponsor them for the same duration.

The club will also have Lanka Hospitals as official medical partner, Prima and ALFT Packaging as co-sponsors.
