The Sri Lanka embassy in the Philippines arranged a commemorative religious event in memory of the late Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar last week at Wisdom Park in Manila.

Mrs. Suganthie Kadirgamar was present at the event together with Ambassador Dr. Chanaka Talpahewa and other embassy staffers.

The visitors were welcomed by the officials of Wisdom Park – Dr. Mariano Yupitun, Founder; Mr. Harish Dilhan Athauda, President; and Ms. Corrine Adiaton, Vice President for Operations.

Dr. Yupitun remembered the late Minister as a ‘great person’ who had done much for Sri Lanka and Buddhism. Special mention was made to the efforts of the late Minister in spearheading the campaign to declare Vesak as a United Nations Holiday. Dr. Yupitun also handed over a first-day cover of the Vesak Day stamp issued by the Government of the Philippines to Ms. Kadirgamar.

A bodhi pooja was performed at the Wisdom Park Bo tree, the sapling of which was brought from Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. This was followed by a Buddha Pooja and an almsgiving to the Maha Sanga prepared by the dmbassy staff. Religious observances were conducted by (Lama) Shifu Yuemin.
