Trailblazing duo embark on challenge to sustain Pekoe Trail
View(s):The Pekoe Trail Organization (TPTO), the nonprofit steward of Sri Lanka’s premier long-distance hiking trail, is thrilled to announce a record-setting hike to highlight the beauty and importance of the trail. Guide Ayesh Buddhika and hiker Michelle Pinkowski, will attempt to complete all 22 stages of the 300km trail in record time, starting Dec 7.
This hike is more than a test of endurance — it’s a call to action for the global hiking community to support the preservation and sustainability of the trail. Weaving through breathtaking tea country, the trail is a tourism gem that connects people to the country’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and community spirit. Maintaining the trail’s accessibility, safety, and impact requires ongoing commitment.
TPTO, as a nonprofit organisation, operates on self-funding, community memberships, and donations. Beyond preserving the trail, TPTO empowers local communities and supports small and medium-sized enterprises to foster sustainable economic opportunities. Through this event, TPTO seeks to inspire adventurers worldwide to contribute to the trail’s preservation and ensure its legacy as a world-class hiking destination.
