To scale up Sri Lanka’s software product development industry and make it more visible, Sri Lanka’s premier product engineering company, 99x will host a major conference next year which will delve into the fast-paced evolution of physical product development, highlighting key trends and best practices.

Hasith Yaggahavita, CEO of 99x in an interview with The Sunday Times Business said that 99x has become the engineering partner for many companies to develop their products and software. He noted that a decade after the first such conference, 99x decided to host this conference for the Sri Lankan market to enable special attention and understanding of the product development space which is nascent at this stage.

“The idea of the product conference is to share the learnings and how to launch a successful global product which we have been doing for the last two decades.” He noted that the product injury and knowledge gleaned from this conference will add 20 per cent premium for the software products.

Mr. Yaggahavita noted that over 300 innovators, engineers, and industry leaders will converge to explore the future of digital product development at this conference. He also noted that more than 300 tech industry participants, along with high-net-worth individuals with significant discretionary spending will be attending the conference.

Explaining why product thinking matters, he said that especially in the export industry, the amount of revenue that a company earns is proportionate to the number of overheads. But in product engineering, it is about licencing. “Sri Lanka being a small country, getting a good hold of product engineering knowledge is important.” He highlighted the importance of having more product development companies. “We only have a handful of such companies. We have seen many start-ups trying to do this, but we can see a lack of awareness and sophistication along with knowledge in this space.”

He noted that the government supporting Sri Lankan product companies will assist them in replicating their success overseas.

“Over the years we have seen the government sector deploy so many foreign companies and a lot of dollars spent digitalising state services. The government needs to deploy locally built software due to dependability and safety and also support the Sri Lankan products.”

He also pointed out that Sri Lanka needs its start-ups to come out with smarter innovation, and innovative products. He also pointed out that Sri Lanka needs its start-ups to produce innovative products which can beat therefore in counterparts.

The summit will explore four key competitive themes: Product-market Fit, Product Design, Product Engineering, and Product Adoption, with keynotes discussing zero-resistance product adoption and AI enhancement.
