Edith Cowan University Sri Lanka Launched Two Innovative Bachelor Programmes

Edith Cowan University (ECU) Sri Lanka celebrated a significant milestone on December 5th, 2024, with the official launch of two undergraduate programmes: the Bachelor of Psychology and the Bachelor of Technology (Engineering) major in Electrical. Held at ECU Sri Lanka campus, the event brought together academics, industry leaders and media representatives to showcase ECU’s commitment to offering international education right here in Sri Lanka.
Professor Helen Klaebe, General Manager of ECU Sri Lanka, welcoming the guests underscored the university’s dedication to providing world-class education and fostering innovation in Sri Lanka.
The official launch was the highlight of the evening, with dynamic visuals, confetti, and the symbolic models making their way through the audience. The programme launch featured creative elements, including models representing the new programmes. The Bachelor of Psychology was symbolised by models carrying a detailed brain replica, while the Bachelor of Technology (Engineering) Major in Electrical was represented by Electro Man figures, embodying the spirit of engineering innovation.
Key figures, including Professor Klaebe, Professor Paulo De Souza, Executive Dean of the School of Engineering, and Mr. David Matthews, Executive General Manager of Navitas, officiated the launch.
Mr. Matthews later outlined Navitas’ future vision for ECU Sri Lanka, discussing plans for academic growth and campus development to further establish the university as a leading educational institution in the region.
Ishani Kariyawasam, Programme Convenor of Creative Humanities, provided an overview of the Bachelor of Psychology, emphasizing its focus on mental health and understanding human behaviour. Meanwhile, Sachith Heenatigala, Programme Convenor of Engineering, introduced Bachelor of Technology (Engineering) Major in Electrical, highlighting its industry-oriented curriculum designed to prepare students for a rapidly evolving technological world.
While the distinguished speakers enriched the evening with their insights, Professor Klaebe highlighted the significance of psychology in addressing modern challenges, while Professor Paulo De Souza, Executive Dean of the School of Engineering, shared inspiring perspectives on the future of engineering education, drawing from his extensive experience, including his projects with NASA.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, followed by networking, live music, and dinner, offering attendees the opportunity to connect and celebrate this milestone.
