Educational reforms ready: Dy. Minister
View(s):Education reforms which would see drastic changes in the system will be introduced by January, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Seneviratne said.
He said that the educational transformation reforms will require changes every 12 years and the first such changes is set to be seen in January. Early childhood education changes in keeping with international standards will be prioritised.
Other changes will be seen in primary education, where new learning methods will be introduced, while the secondary education system will see the introduction of new subjects.
A new stream of education will be introduced at Grade 9.
Introduction of changes in the vocational education system where new areas of study catering to job opportunities will be introduced. The Grade 5 examination system will continue unchanged.
Changes in the recruitment system of teachers will be part of the reforms, while increasing the intake of students to Colleges of Education will be part of the programme.
The National Institute of Education will be responsible for the training of the teachers required to implement the reforms.
