Taylor Swift’s Eras World Tour earns over $2 billion in ticket sales

Taylor Swift has rounded off 2024 on a record breaking note as her Eras World Tour has grossed over $2 billion from ticket sales. The tour commenced in April 2023 in Arizona, US and concluded on 8th December in Vancouver Canada in all covering 149 shows in 21 countries. Some of her concerts particularly in England attracted attention for the wrong reasons as the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister had obtained gratis tickets and Taylor given special police escorts due to security threats.  Swift who turned 35 on 13th December did not forget the various teams and individuals who helped make her Eras tour a success as reports suggest she has handed out $ 197 million as bonuses.

Guns N Roses to tour Middle East
Guns N Roses fronted by Axl Rose, announced a 24 date tour of Middle East and Europe which will commence on 23rd May 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and end on 31st July in Germany. The tour will cover 21 countries. 2025 marks 40 years of touring by Guns N Roses.

UK Singles chart loaded with Christmas hits
Christmas is around the corner and the UK singles chart is loaded with Yuletide hits as normal songs are taking a bit of backseat in popularity. The majority of the top 10 singles chart, seven to be precise, comprises of Christmas related songs this week. One of the songs is ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ by the late US artist Bobby Helms, has returned to the Top 10 after an absence of 67 years. The song covers a mixture of genres like rockabilly, country and rock and roll which was the trend back in the late 50s. Helms released the song in October 1957 with track peaking on the UK chart at No.7 at Christmas time. This week the same track ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ by Bobby Helms advanced to the UK No.10 from 30 and is likely to count further, leading up to Christmas. In addition to last week’s entries, this week alone Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ has made it to No.6 from 20, Band Aid’s 40 year hit ‘Do They Know Its Christmas’ at No.8 making a big climb from 45 while Ed Sheeran & Sir Elton John’s ‘Merry Christmas’ ascended to No.9, climbing from 31. All these are perennials have been returning to the top 10 almost every year with a few exceptions.

Queen guitarist Sir Brian May’s health improving
Queen guitarist Sir Brian May’s health is reported to be improving since he had a stroke in September. Reports quoting his wife indicate the Queen guitarist is playing the piano at home and is slowly starting to play an acoustic guitar, gradually exercising the muscles. In 2020, the guitarist had three stents inserted after suffering a heart attack.
