Philharmonic Choir captures the spirit of Christmas with ‘O Radiant Dawn’
View(s):The Colombo Philharmonic Choir (CPC) presents ‘O Radiant Dawn’, celebrating the heart and soul of the festive season on Wednesday, December 18, at 7.30 p.m. at Christ Church, Galle Face.
The programme for the evening will showcase a selection of Christmas choral masterpieces and traditional carols from around the world, highlighting works by renowned composers such as Ken Burton, Bob Chilcott, Randall Thompson, Morten Lauridsen, James MacMillan, and many others. With music spanning Spain, Germany, England, and the United States, this evening promises to be a delightful journey through Christmas traditions and timeless melodies.
“Expect a rich tapestry of music, from lively seasonal classics to the more mystical, evocative pieces that capture the spirit of Christmas,” says conductor Harin Amirthanathan. “We also sing smaller jewels, both sacred and secular.”
The evening will showcase both acappella and accompanied works, with opportunities for audience participation in cherished carol favourites.
‘O Radiant Dawn’ marks the CPC’s third performance in what has been a prolific year. Earlier this year, the choir presented ‘Sing On, Sweet Thrush’, a celebration of birdsong through choral music in March, followed by ‘Te Deum’, a showcase of English choral music in September.
Entrance for ‘O Radiant Dawn’ on December 18 is by programme, priced at
Rs. 1500 (available at the entrance).
