Army clinch Eagles Cup in thrilling finale
Army Sports Club overcame Navy Sports Club by 4-2 on penalty shootouts, after the final of the Eagles Cup Challenge Trophy Football Tournament ended in a thrilling draw at the Racecourse ground in Colombo. After the highly anticipated final ended in a stalemate, the Soldiers were guided to a dramatic win as they claimed the Eagles Trophy following successful penalty kicks from Jaufer Rifkan, Asikur Rahuman, Sajith Kumara and Madushan de Silva.
The tournament’s opening matches set the tone for an intense competition as Navy emerged victorious against Air Force in the opening game, displaying excellent coordination and strategy. The second match witnessed the Army overpowering the Air Force in a hard-fought battle. These results set the stage for a thrilling final between the Army and Navy. This year’s tournament saw fierce competition among the three teams from armed forces – Army, Navy, and Air Force – showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork.
