Rain halt Army vs Police game
The SLR-Mastercard Club Rugby League 2024 game between Army SC and Police SC, played at Panagoda, was stalled from proceeding further beyond the halftime due to heavy rains, at which point the hosts were holding slight 8-5 lead. As both teams took the field soon after the halftime break heavy downpours, coupled with lightning and thunder forced the match officials to hold the game until conditions turned better to play. With the weather condition worsening even to the point of full time, the match officials decided to replay the game from the point it was stalled today at 4:00pm at the same venue.
During the active first half of the game, the Soldiers played an improved style from last season to rake up their points through flyhalf Ashan Bandara, who braced a try, made a conversion and put over a penalty. Police responded with an unconverted try, and looked well set for a retaliation, but that would have to be saved for another day, when the game resumes from the point it was stopped.
