View(s):The Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct proudly ushered in the holiday season with its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, held in collaboration with Mastercard. This year, a magnificent 68-foot tree was lit by Harpo Gunaratne – Founder of Harpo’s Cafes and Restaurants, Dharshan Munidasa – Founder of Ministry of Crab, and Sandun Hapugoda – Country Manager of Mastercard, joined by the tenants.
The Dutch Hospital Shopping precinct is home to some of the most famous restaurants and shopping experiences in the city; currently housing multiple restaurants: Ministry of Crab, Colombo Fort Café, Ceylon Curry Club, Masala Island, Autarch, Heladiv Tea Club; Taphouse by R&R; and retail spaces: Spa Ceylon, Odel (Luv SL) and Batcha Jewellery.
An iconic tourist attraction in Colombo, the Old Dutch Hospital is a mark of Colombo’s modernism as well as the country’s rich history. Its central location in the heart of the city has long made it a hotspot for both tourists and locals alike. The project to renovate and restore the colonial hospice took place in 2011, under the supervision of the Urban Development Authority, in collaboration with The Tourist Development Authority, as part of the Colombo Development Programme.
