Rodney returns to cinema with ‘Hemanthe Sihinayak’

Veteran journalist, writer, filmmaker and popular lyricist Rodney Vidanapathirana is ready to start his newest film ‘Hemanthe Sihinayak’ with a number of Sri Lankan artistes based in London.

Following his earlier collaborations like teledrama ‘Hemanthe Wasanthayak’ and film ‘Ira Sevaya’ with some of the UK based Sri Lankan stars; Rodney has travelled to the UK to complete his pre-production work of his latest direction. The new film is to feature popular star Kanchana Mendis and others including Wimal Alahakone, Achala Walpola, Gamini Abeysinghe, Chethan de Silva-son of veteran vocalist Saman de Silva. ‘Hemanthe Sihinayak’ is to introduce Sherin Achala to the silver screen.

Cinematographed by Sisira Maddumage and screenplay written by Malan Vidanapathirana and Priyasha Ranwala, the production of the film is to be started soon.

Vimal Alahakone

Started with ‘Udawediya Mal’, Rodney has directed a number of teledramas including ‘Sapa Nokaraw Dharuwane’, ‘Wanapasa Mal’, ‘Hathe Wasama’, ‘Hemanthaye Wasanthayak’, ‘Ridi Tharaka’ and ‘Hima Piyali’.

Rodney gained experienced in cinema working as assistant director to Sena Samarasinghe in his film ‘Chanchala Rekha’ and Shirley P. Wijeratne’s ‘Welle Thenu Maliga’. With the experience he gained, Rodney made his own film ‘Shilpa Denu Mena’ but it could not be completed due to unavoidable circumstances.

Multitalented artiste Rodney is well-known for his versatility in writing lyrics and he was the wordsmith for a number of evergreen Sinhala songs like Vijaya Kumaratuge’s ‘Karamba Yaye’, Jagatha Wickremasinghe’s ‘Sagara Tharanga’, Nirosha Virajani’s ‘Sanda Rajini’ and Nimal Gunasekara’s ‘Prema Maya Dele’.
