Pachyderm dead in perilous pond

A 35-year-old elephant fell into Erenawilluwa Pond in the Karaitivu area of Vanathavilluwa two days ago and died while struggling to escape, according to wildlife authorities.
The Erenawilluwa area is considered dangerous, and locals typically avoid it, especially during the rainy season. Reports indicate that the elephant fell into the pond while walking through the area.
As of yesterday, a veterinary surgeon from the Wildlife Department conducted post-mortem examinations.
