A case filed at the Colombo District Court, seeking the suspension of Maxwell de Silva from engaging in his role as the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC), was fixed to be heard on January 15, 2025 by Judge Sandun Vithana. He ordered both parties to file written submissions prior to the date.

The petitioners, Upali Rajapakse, the President of Sri Lanka Handball Federation, and Nalin Adhikari Arachchige, the former Secretary of Sri Lanka Cycling Federation assert that de Silva is unfit and unsuitable to function as Secretary General of NOC. They claim that until a proper investigation is conducted and completed on the allegations levelled against the accused, de Silva should be barred from holding a responsible position, as it affects the entire spectrum of sports administration in the country.

When the case was heard before Colombo District Court Judge Sandun Vithana, Attorney at-Law Sanath Wijewardena, who appeared on behalf of the first respondent Suresh Subramaniam, the President of NOC, made s statement on behalf of his client. Attorney at-Law Palitha Kumarasinghe PC appeared on behalf of de Silva.
