St. Peter’s coast to innings win
St. Peter’s College coasted to an innings and 14-run win over Gurukula MV, Kelaniya in their Under-19 Inter-School cricket encounter concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday. The second day’s play saw St. Peter’s going on to make 234-7 before declaring, resuming from their overnight score of 152-6. This was in reply to Gurukula’s score of 66.
Gurukula, batting the second time, was left with the task of erasing a deficit of 166 runs to avoid an innings defeat, and they succumbed to the bowling pair Thareen Sanketh and Dilana Damsara, who shared eight wickets between them, before being bowled out for 154 runs.
St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya recorded an outright win by an innings and 26 runs against Tissa Central, Kalutara at Katuneriya while Thurstan College and Revatha, Balapitiya recorded first innings.
Tons by Chamika Heenitigala and Sithum Vihanga, who together shared a massive stand of 187 runs for the fourth wicket, helped Mahanama College put up a formidable score of 304-5 against St. Servatius College, Matara at Reid Avenue.
