SLCERT gets new chairman, directors
View(s):Sri Lanka Cybersecurity Emergency Response Teams (SLCERT) has got five new director appointments, officials said.
Thilak Pathirage, Cybersecurity Consultant is the new Chairman of SLCERT. Along with the chairman, four new directors have been appointed. Independent directors – Jayantha Fernando, Renuka Ruvel, and Channa De Silva have been retained.
With SLCERT watching over state agency computer systems, the new board’s first task will be to get the Cybersecurity Act passed, an official said. He said without the Cybersecurity Act being passed, SLCERT doesn’t have the power to enforce action. Currently, this piece of legislation is with the Attorney General’s department, he added. Simultaneously, the Online Safety Bill is also to be passed. “We have planned consultations, several amendments, and proper reliefs to this bill and then we’ll get it through the parliament.”
As per the new government’s mandate, the government ICT agency will revamp its operations, the official further added. “We have seen compromising of WhatsApp, personal information etc. in the recent past. We are looking at probing these things as well as revamping SLCERT for real-time.”
He also said that a total of 53 Phishing websites were taken down by Sri Lanka Financial Sector Computer Security Incident Response Team (FinCSIRT), so far this year.
