Former WP councillor and another arrested allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 9 mn

Former Western Provincial Councillor and businessman Salochana Gamage and another businessman who were arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 9 million were remanded in custody till January 6 after being produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Bandara Illangasinghe yesterday.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), which arrested and produced the two suspects in court, requested that they be held in remand.
The former provincial councillor and the other suspect, a businessman identified as Dushshantha Dinesh Rathnayake, had solicited the bribe from another businessman to expedite compensation for a land owned by the relative of the businessman. The land had been acquired by the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
The businessman had lodged a complaint with CIABOC and the two suspects were arrested on Friday evening while in the act of accepting Rs. 9 million as a bribe.
