The launch of Ththatha’s book; a tribute to Amma
View(s):The week of September 29, 2024, is one that warrants a bittersweet celebration for our family. We were looking forward to celebrating Amma’s 80th birthday on October 4 and Thaththa intended to mark this milestone by presenting her with the first copy of his latest Sinhala book, “Kithunu Vivahaya Saha Kutumba Sanrakshanaya” which captures their life lessons on building and safeguarding a Christian marriage and family.
Our God-fearing parents, Leo and Annette Fonseka, had spent time generating the draft together and the early chapters reflected their combined vision for the book. Amma, however, transitioned to her eternal home on June 29, 2023, and Thaththa was left to pick up the pieces. This life-altering event motivated Thaththa to continue the journey to honour God for His many blessings over the course of their 53 years of marriage.
On September 30, 2024, the book was launched at the International Book Fair at BMICH. An occasion which should have been marked with immense joy, is now a solemn moment of reflection as Amma is no longer in our midst to see the labour of love come to fruition. She would have been overjoyed at this incredible opportunity to share their experiences of God’s mercies with the readers.
As their children, we are humbled by the manner in which our parents modelled God’s unconditional love and grace to family, friends and strangers, alike. With each decision or action, they exemplified His will and love. They never failed to remind us that all we have is from above and we have a responsibility to live lives that would honour the God who has blessed us beyond measure. Even in the most difficult of circumstances, their unwavering faith in God carried our family. Amma and Thaththa imparted the importance of leading generous lives and being selfless.
With this launch of Thaththa’s latest publication, we hope its readers would gain insight that the same God who guided our parents to build a loving, Christ-centred marriage and family, will be gracious to others. May the book encourage, strengthen and give hope to the weary.
